Thanksgiving was one of my favorite holidays to celebrate when I was living back in the States. I loved spending time with all my family and coming together over a delicious meal. When I moved to Australia I became a little down around this time of year because Thanksgiving is not a holiday here. Not wanting me to be sad, my partner and his family encouraged me and we decided to celebrate it anyway and show all of our Aussie friends and family what they were missing!
Patrick and my first Thanksgiving in Australia was celebrated last year in 2015, but at that time I didn’t have a blog. However, if you would like to read about it, you can check it out on Wanderlost’s Thanksgiving Around the World.
An Aussie Thanksgiving!
This year when the time came we were asked many times by friends and family if Thanksgiving was happening again this year. Everyone loved it and couldn’t wait to celebrate again.
Planning Thanksgiving in Australia is slightly difficult because some of the ingredients needed for traditional dishes are either very hard to find or non-existent. Instead of hustling around town trying to find stuff we just made a few Aussie tweaks to our menu. With our menu set, all that was left was to cook, set the table and wait for the guests to arrive!
Thanksgiving dinner was a success! Everyone enjoyed the meal and had a great time and little Pearl got to experience her first Thanksgiving! Until next year!!
