My 5 Favorite Cafes in Newcastle

December 19, 2016
coffee

I have lived in Newcastle for almost two years and have drunk quite a few coffees and visited my fair share of cafes. Today, I thought I would share my 5 favorite cafes in Newcastle. Enjoy!

1. Ground Up Espresso

Ground Up Espresso is Patrick’s and my first choice when it comes to where we should go on a Saturday morning. This cafe technically isn’t our local (cafe closest to our house), but it is the only cafe that we ride our bikes too! Located in the quiet suburb of Carrington, this colourful cafe has the friendliest staff, is pet-friendly and has delicious coffee and breakfast!

2. Papa’s Bagel Bar

Papa’s Bagel Bar. The only place you can get a good bagel & coffee in Newcastle! Being from the USA I grew up with bagels as a breakfast staple, but when I arrived here the bagel craze hadn’t quite caught on yet. However, just last year this little gem opened on Hunter St. in Newcastle West and all my bagel needs have been satisfied! Their creations don’t stop at bagels, Papa’s Bagel Bar also makes tasty bagel breakfast fillings and sandwiches.

3. Suspension Espresso

When we run out of coffee beans at home, Suspension is our go to. Suspension has really nice coffee and an even better breakfast bruschetta that can be enjoyed in their open plan cafe with access to an outdoor courtyard. Suspension has just opened its retail store called Slingtown and it offers it’s customers the option to purchase their own coffee beans and other coffee paraphernalia.

4. Monkey Monkey Monkey (3 Monkeys)

The best milkshakes!!! Monkey Monkey Monkey, or 3 Monkeys as it is known around Newcastle is not only an option for breakfast, but dinner too! Patrick and I usually visit 3 Monkeys to enjoy breakfast or a milkshake. This cafe is two stories with the option to dine on the 2nd story balcony overlooking Darby St in Cooks Hill.

5. Blue Door Kiosk

Well I guess it’s not a cafe, it’s a kiosk… But who doesn’t love coffee by the beach?! Winter or Summer this is the place we go to when we want to go to the beach and have ourselves a coffee. Located at Merewether Beach, Blue Door Kiosk is a local favorite for all of Newcastle and famous selling Cocowhip. Cocowhip is a bio-fermented coconut soft serve that is a vegan, gluten and dairy-free dessert, that brings everyone together regardless of dietary requirements.

There they are! My favorite cafes in Newcastle! If you are ever in town be sure to check them outXX Court

Ooooh, these all sound fantastic! I love any place that lets people bring their pups. A cozy morning spent people watching with coffee and a snuggly pup? I’m interested! 😀
