You all know by now that I loveeee wine, so when Patrick asked me if I would like to go to the Hunter Valley for some wine tasting and a nice lunch I couldn’t pass it up. I had been wanting to visit Dark Horse Vineyards for a while now, every since I started following them on Instagram I fell in love with their cellar door and wanted to go visit.
Dark Horse Vineyards
Dark Horse Vineyards is located about 40 minutes outside of Newcastle in the suburb of Lovedale. To start you off, I am going to share a little background info on this boutique winery:
“Dark Horse has combined their love of Wine and Horses to bring you Hunter Valleys first Equestrian Inspired Cellar Door. Their cellar door is new to the Hunter Valley opening in 2016, but their vines have been around for half a century. The unirrigated vineyard is cane-pruned and hand-picked to produce a low-yielding, high-quality grape. They only produce approximately 1300 bottles of each wine, and all wines are exclusively Hunter Valley grown.”
The cellar door is absolutely beautiful, the styling and decor were so cozy I felt like I wanted to move right in. Patrick and I tasted 5 of their wines; 1 vedehlo, 3 semillions and 1 rose (Patrick also tried the Shiraz). My favorite was the Doni & Doll Semillion, which I ended up buying two bottles. Patrick liked the Shiraz, so in total, we walked out with four bottles of boutique Hunter Valley wine! Life couldn’t get any better hey!?
Dark Horse is not only a stunningly beautiful and has great wine they also sell homewares. Meaning that all the beautiful stuff that they have used to decorate the cellar door is also for sale! It’s a two for one, wine tasting and shopping all at the same place who could say no to that?
Lillino’s Bar & Trattoria
After our successful visit to Dark Horse Vineyards, we set off to get lunch at Lillino’s Bar & Trattoria . Patrick’s parents recommended this restaurant to us for lunch and when it comes to their recommendations they are always spot on, especially when it comes to enjoying good food. All I have to say is that I had the best wood-fired pizza for lunch that I think I’ve ever eaten. If I could go back every day I would. The food was amazing, the wine was amazing and what can I say, the views were amazing too. We will be going back to Lillino’s for sure, I mean we only tried the pizza section of the menu! Next, we will have to try the mains and I honestly can’t wait.
Sabor in the Hunter Dessert Bar
After lunch, Patrick and I decided what not a better way to finish off the day then going to Sabor for some yummy dessert and coffee. Sabor is a must if visiting the Hunter Valley, their desserts are literal works of art and so so delicious. Don’t believe me? See for yourself.
I ordered the Red Velvet & Summer Berry Cheesecake and Patrick decided on the Triple Chocolate Dome.
Just looking at these photos makes me want to go back again. Luckily, we have another trip (for Pat’s b-day) 😉 booked back in a couple of weeks! Until next time!
