Bridesmaid Abroad: Wedding Weekend in Maryland!

July 6, 2017

It’s Wedding Weekend!!!

I am a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding! The day is finally here and I am packed and ready to head to the airport. To give everyone an idea of the travel involved in attending a wedding overseas I thought I’d give a little bit of a play by play on how it all went down.

Thursday 18th of May 2017

  • Patrick dropped me off at the Sydney airport at 7 am
  • My flight leaves at 10 am AEST 🙂
  • Arrived in Los Angeles 7:45 am PST
  • Leave LAX 9:45 am to arrive Chicago at 3:54 pm
  • Leave Chicago at 6:30 pm arrive Baltimore, Md at 10:40 pm! YAYS

By this point I am so exhausted, I have been traveling for so long but it’s worth it when my bestie and her soon to be husband pick me up from the airport. We drive an hour and a half back to the eastern shore of Maryland to their house and crash at around midnight.

8:00 am – Wake up and get breakfast at Dunkin Donuts with the Bride and Maddy (Bridesmaid #4). I have a quick shock and then tears of delight when I realize I only have to pay $1.80 for my bagel (prices in Australia are not cheap!) I refuse coffee because nothing beats the coffee back home. We had to run a few errands in town, I went to the bank, the bride had to get her ring cleaned for the wedding, and we do some last minute shopping.

11:00 am – We hit the nail salon with all the bridesmaids to get our nails done and had the absolute BEST time. The mothers of the bride and groom came with us and were the absolute bomb. We popped bottles of champagne and ate chips and dip while we were pampered at the salon.

1:00 pm – Since I was limited on my time in my old hometown, I made plans to visit my grandparents after our nail salon appointment and before the rehearsal dinner. My parents picked me up and we went to see mommom! It was great I loved walking back into her house, it felt like it had been forever.

4:00 pm – My parents dropped me off at the hotel I was staying at with all the bridesmaids and we all got dressed up and ready to go to the wedding rehearsal and the rehearsal dinner.

6:00 pm – The rehearsal went off without a hitch and then it was time to party! We were lucky enough to get to be part of the soft opening for Docs Sunset Grill in Oxford, Md. We had an amazing meal followed by lots of dancing (with an awesome DJ) and drinks. Mother of the groom drove us home and we even got to make a pitstop at taco bell on the way back to the hotel! My life was complete.

Its Wedding Day!!!

8:00 am – We all woke up and got breakfast at Panera Bread (it was right across from the hotel).

9:00 am – Hair and makeup team came to the hotel to start getting us ready for the ceremony and this was also when the first bottle of champagne was opened.

9:30 am – The bride’s brother and his boyfriend came to join us and brought more champagne as well as getting us Chipotle chips, salsa, and guac. It was sooo good.

2:00 pm – Makeup and hair were done we were looking fab ready to head to the venue around 2 o clock. We arrived on time and ready to get this wedding started.

Just before walking down the aisle!

4:30 pm – Finally, it was time! It was so surreal that I was walking down the aisle for my best friend’s wedding! We ended up having amazing weather for the outdoor wedding, it was short, quick and to the point and it was amazing watching two people I grew up with commit their lives to each other. I am so happy for them. With the wedding ceremony over, it was time to head back inside the venue, pop some champagne, and start to celebrate. While the guests were partaking in the cocktail hour, the bridal party was getting photos with the newlyweds.

6:00pm – Reception time! Now it was time to eat, drink and be merry! The reception was great I was able to see and talk to many people I had not seen since high school. It was such a great time and I will not be forgetting it anytime soon.

I would not have missed this wedding for the world. It was so worth it to travel half way across the world to be a part of my best friends big day.
